Refs and non-skating officials (NSOs) are an important part of roller derby. We’re there to make sure the teams play legally, and above all else, safely. We practice just as hard as the skaters to be good at what we do.

On-skate officials (referees) are the zebras in the vertical stripes at every bout. The NSOs are the men/women in black keeping track of all the stats the zebras throw at them! It takes a well-organised crew of refs and NSOs to make sure a bout happens! You do NOT need to know how to skate to be an NSO but you will need to skate to be a ref. Anyone can start NSOing at anytime, we’ll teach you all you need to know!
